What is the Virtual Advisory Board

The Virtual Advisory Board (VAB) is an invite-only global community of senior executives, entrepreneurs and industry experts. Instead of relying on traditional search firms, its members help one another secure non-executive director and advisory board roles through trusted peer connections, supported by member matching, peer learning and board profile support.

Founded by David Fernandez and Mark Hamill, VAB brings together more than 1,300 executives across 80 countries. GPA Investment Group is a strategic partner of the community, and its Greek chapter is chaired by Mr. Spanidis.

In just its first year, VAB Greece has already become one of the largest VAB chapters worldwide.

From vision to boardroom

The chapter’s greatest achievement is the value it creates through meaningful relationships, knowledge sharing and real boardroom opportunities. During the evening, Mr. Spanidis introduced the chapter’s leadership board: Stelios Christakos, Co-Chair, whose entrepreneurial experience and strategic perspective are invaluable, and Spyros E. Bokias, the newest Board Member, who brings outstanding executive leadership experience.

VAB Greece also welcomed six new members and celebrated Penny Kontogeorgou’s appointment to the board of a German company, while introducing the upcoming board formation for a UK-based company. Tangible examples of what happens when the right expertise meets the right opportunity.

In conversation with Chrysanthi Vakla

A highlight of the evening was the fireside conversation between Mr. Spanidis and Chrysanthi Vakla, Partner & Chair of Susten. Her authenticity, depth of knowledge and openness made for a genuinely inspiring discussion.

Having worked together on building Susten’s board, the conversation was a meaningful demonstration of how purposeful governance creates real value. A board, as Mr. Spanidis put it, should be a carefully designed ecosystem of competencies, independent thinking, accountability, experience and genuine commitment to the organisation’s success.

Entering year two

Greek entrepreneurship deserves world-class governance, and VAB Greece enters its second year with greater ambition, stronger relationships and a clear mission: to elevate leadership, professionalise governance and create opportunities that make a lasting difference.
